GE Aviation Secures $144M Navy Funds to Produce Lots 2 and 3 CH-53K Helicopter Engines

General Electric’s aviation business has been awarded a $143.7M contract modification by the U.S. Navy to continue manufacturing engines to power CH-53K heavy-lift cargo helicopters.

The award covers low-rate initial production of T408-GE-400 engines, related equipment, spares and support services, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.

GE Aviation will supply three lot 2 engines and 24 lot 3 turboshaft engines under the modification. Work will take place in Lynn, Mass., through December 2022.

The Naval Air Systems Command will obligate the modification’s full amount at the time of award from the Navy’s fiscal 2018 and 2019 aircraft procurement funds.

Lockheed Martin‘s (NYSE: LMT) Sikorsky subsidiary will build the second and third batches of King Stallion helicopters under a $1.13B contract awarded in May.
